Bernadette Peters (born Bernadette Lazzara on 28 February 1948) was an American actress singer and children's book author from Ozone Park Queens New York . In her five decades of professional career, she has appeared in musicals and television along with solo shows as well as recorded recordings. She is one of the most highly praised Broadway performers, having received nominations for seven Tony Awards, winning two and eight Drama Desk Awards winning three. 4 of her Broadway casting albums in which she's starred have been awarded Grammy Awards. Peters began her stage career as a kid, then as a teenager in the 1960s. The 1970s were when she started acting in movies and television. Alongside her roles in The Muppet Show, The Carol Burnett Show, and in other TV work she also earned praise for the roles she performed in Annie and Silent Movie. In 1980, she began to return to Broadway and was one of the most famous performers on this stage for the next thirty years.
